Welcome back

You picked a first move to test your path.

Your first move

—

Did it happen? Either answer tells you something, which is the point of starting small.

Start here · 1 of 2

Where are you right now?

Pick the one that sounds most like you today.

Quick check · 2 of 2

How clear is each part of your path?

Go with your gut. A few taps.

Your starting point

Here's where your road is clear, and where it's foggy.

Clearest—
Foggiest—

Before we build

Which of these sound like you?

Tap any that fit. Most people pick two or three.

Your path · P1 · People

Who do you want to work with, or for?

The people you light up around, and the ones you'd want your work to help. If you work for yourself, these are your clients or customers.

Tip · tap the mic on your keyboard and just talk. It's faster than typing, and it sounds more like you.

Places to look

  • People you'd help for free
  • Who comes to you for advice
  • A group you get frustrated on behalf of
  • Coworkers you loved working with
  • People you never want to serve again
  • Who you'd want as customers
Your path · P2 · Problem

What problems do you keep noticing, or can't help fixing?

The thing that bugs you when it's done badly. The mess you quietly clean up.

Places to look

  • Something you complain about
  • What friends bring to you
  • A broken process you fixed
  • A cause you keep reading about
  • Something your last job did badly
Your path · P3 · Process

How do you like to work?

Skills you're good at and enjoy using. Think verbs, not job titles.

Verbs to try

  • Teaching
  • Building
  • Fixing
  • Organizing
  • Analyzing
  • Persuading
  • Creating
  • Caring for
  • Leading
  • When you lost track of time
Your path · P4 · Place

Where do you do your best work?

Setting, pace, team, schedule. The conditions where your brain works with you.

Places to look

  • Remote or in person
  • Fast or steady
  • Solo or on a team
  • Structured or flexible
  • Big organization or small
  • Your own business
  • Your best and worst job
Your path · P5 · Purpose

Why does it matter to you?

What you'd want the work to add up to, for you, the people you care about, or the world. Money and stability count.

Places to look

  • Who you'd want to make proud
  • Something you'd want to fix
  • Security for your family
  • Freedom and time
  • What you'd want to be known for
Put it together

Write your path in one sentence.

Pull a few words from each P. Rough is fine. You can change it anytime.

Show what you wrote
I want to help people with problem by process in place because purpose.
Another road

Swap one or two pieces. What else could fit?

Same you, different mix. Change the people, the place or the problem and see what comes out. These are hypotheses to test, not decisions.

Path one

—

Test drive

Which path do you want to test first?

Pick the one you're most curious about, not the one that feels safest.

Test drive

How could you test this path?

Something real that would show you whether this road fits. Small or big, in your own words.

Tests that work

  • Talk to three people doing this work
  • Ask five potential clients what they'd pay for
  • Put up one page about it on your site
  • Post about it and see who responds
  • Do one small paid or volunteer project
  • Read ten job posts and highlight what excites you
Test drive

How likely is it you'll make that first move?

Not how much you want to. A low number is useful information.

6 / 10
Probably won'tDefinitely will

Often the answer is a smaller step. That's a good answer.

What you'll walk away with

A clear picture of your road, and one way to test it.

PeopleProblemProcessPlacePurpose

Your 5 Ps

Who you want to work with, what you want to help solve, how you like to work, where you do your best work, and why it matters. In your own words.

I want to help  people  with  problem  by  process  in  place  because  purpose .

A one-sentence path

Your 5 Ps pulled into one sentence you can say out loud, plus another road worth considering.

Test driveFirst move, this week

A real test, not a plan

One way to try your path in the real world this month, and the first move to start it. Small enough that you'll actually do it.

You'll also see which part of your path is clearest and which is foggiest, so you know where to focus next.

The idea behind it

Stop treasure hunting. Start building.

Most of us were taught there's one right career out there, and our job is to find it. So we wait to feel sure. We research for months. We start strong and stall. For ADHD brains, that hunt is exhausting, and it rarely ends.

LifeSketch flips it. A job is a vehicle: it gets you somewhere for a while. Your career is the road you're on. Once you can name the road, choosing the next vehicle gets much easier, whether that's a new job, a degree, or a business of your own.

What we hear on calls

“Someone asks what I want to do, and I've got nothing.”

“I'm afraid I'll pick the wrong path again.”

“I don't want to start over. I can't stay here.”

What clients say
“Our sessions were one of the major catalysts that helped me crystallize what sort of impact mattered to me and how I wanted to shape my career.”
Career-change client
“I gained mental clarity, a more defined purpose and goal, and a greater belief in myself and what I'm trying to achieve.”
Coaching client
“The three biggest benefits: confidence, clarity, and developing an action mindset.”

Who built this

A professional who actually gets it.

I'm Scott Treas, MA, LPC, founder of LifeSketch. I'm a licensed counselor turned career coach, and I have ADHD too. I know what it's like to have ten ideas and finish none, and to wonder what's wrong with you. Nothing is. You need a system built for how your brain works.

The 5 Ps are the core of how I help clients figure out where they fit. This tool is the same first step I use with them, free.

Questions

Before you start

Is it really free?

Yes. No payment and no sign-up to use it. At the end you can ask us to email your Path Sketch, and that's the only time we ask for your email.

Do I need an ADHD diagnosis?

No. It's built for ADHD brains, with one question at a time, prompts when you're stuck, and progress that saves. Anyone who feels stuck about what's next can use it.

What happens to my answers?

Your answers are saved in your own browser so you can come back later. We count anonymous steps, like how many people finish, to improve the tool. Your written answers only reach us if you ask us to email your Path Sketch.

What if I get stuck on a question?

Every question has a "Stuck?" button with places to look. Rough answers are fine, and you can skip the optional screens. Most people find the fog lifts once the other answers are on paper.

Is this therapy?

No. It's a career coaching tool. Coaching is not therapy and is not a substitute for mental health care. If you're in Colorado and looking for counseling, LifeSketch has licensed clinicians.

Your road is already there. Let's sketch it.
